The General Idea

We are looking for a strong person to come into Zappos and own the PLA strategy and tactical execution. We have a large product catalog across a diverse set of categories that makes optimization exciting! The knowledge of PLA A-Z is mandatory to know what levers to optimize to achieve incredible results. We are huge fans of testing different optimization methods to make sure we do not rest on our laurels and are always delivering the maximum results for Zappos. Managing, mentoring, and hiring the PLA team is a key component for success. Working across multiple teams, including our tech team and merchandising team, will be necessary to ensure ultimate success. We want an analytically experienced team member that can really shape PLA, which is a fast growing channel in marketing.

  • Hiring, managing, and mentoring PLA team
  • Managing and set bidding strategy rules
  • Co-managing relationships with all search engine teams
  • Creating strategy for PLA program within Zappos
  • Monitoring and reporting of performance across Zappos' websites
  • Maximizing potential of third-party platform by working with vendors
  • Testing and optimizing the settings and controls of PLA platform to drive incremental revenue and new customer acquisition
  • Monitoring and optimizing PLA performance around devices, informing senior search manager of this performance, and documenting traffic trends and patterns
  • Monitoring feed delivery to advertising platforms
  • Optimizing the feed to leverage an optimal campaign structure
  • Evaluating third-party bid, campaign, and feed management vendors for PLA
  • Planning and implementing campaign structure strategy for PLA
  • Serve as a liaison with software engineers to create new tools and optimize product data feeds
  • Weekly communication with account executives to improve performance
  • Careful monitoring of data feed delivery and pickup
  • Meet with merchandising teams to be apprised on latest product catalog
  • Strategize negative keywords

Required Skills
  • A minimum of three years online marketing experience, preferably in PLA (Google Shopping), SEM, CSEs
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel experience
  • Feed management experience and optimizing product feeds
  • Four year degree, preferably in marketing or a technical discipline
  • Very strong organization, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Proactive and able to develop rapport and positive working relationships with coworkers and account executives
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize various projects
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Must love negative keywords
  • Experience with Kenshoo, Adobe Adlens/Media Optimizer, Mercent, Channel Advisor, or Marin Software is preferred.
